- Minister Òscar Ordeig was able to learn about the cooperative project and its future challenges
On February 21, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture of the Government of Catalonia, Òscar Ordeig, visited L’Olivera’s headquarters in Vallbona de les Monges to learn about its social farming project. At L’Olivera, we had the opportunity to explain the work we do supporting people facing difficulties and producing sustainable olive oils and wines in Lleida and Collserola.
L’Olivera’s president, Clara Griera, highlights: “The Minister’s visit confirms that we are building a project that generates interest and can serve as an alternative for the territory and for dryland agriculture. It allowed us to explain how we work, why we do things the way we do, and where we want to go.”
In this context, we explored avenues for collaboration with the Department and shared our position regarding the three upcoming future challenges:
- Addressing economic difficulties and the decline in wine consumption by improving production processes.
- Raising awareness about small and medium-scale farming, as well as quality products.
- Highlighting the added values of dryland agriculture, such as maintaining the rural fabric, preventing wildfires and strengthening local identity.
Also present during the visit were L’Olivera’s director, Carles de Ahumada, and Head of Production, Pau Moragas. The Minister was accompanied by the Secretary General for Food, Rosa Cubel; the Government Delegate in Lleida, Núria Gil; and the Director of the Department’s Territorial Services in Lleida, Jaume Freixa.
