Red Arraona

Arraona is the name attributed to the ancient Iberian settlement of Sabadell. This red wine is created with the aim of reclaiming the town’s viticultural past and recovering its agricultural, cultural and landscape values. With this wine we maintain manual work in the vineyard and our commitment to a social and peri-urban agriculture initiative at the Can Gambús vineyard, in the Sabadell Agrarian Park, which L’Olivera has managed together with the Can Calopa team since 2010.

This red wine is part of the external micro‑projects in which L’Olivera participates with the aim of building ties with the surrounding territory, sharing experiences and knowledge, and contributing to the promotion of agricultural activity in different rural and urban areas. It is the result of an agreement between L’Olivera and the Sabadell City Council to recover vine cultivation within the municipality.

Landscape

ORIGIN: Vineyards from the Can Gambús estate, in the Sabadell Agrarian Park. The park is a protected agroforestry area, not subject to urban development, located to the west of the municipality between the neighbourhoods of Castellarnau, Can Gambús and Ca n’Oriac, with a landscape that combines woodland and ravines with dryland and irrigated farmland.
SOILS: Clay‑limestone soils with good drainage, containing variable levels of stoniness—mostly rounded pebbles—and offering strong water‑retention capacity.
CLIMATE: Mediterranean‑influenced climate, with mild winters, hot summers, moderate thermal oscillation and scarce, highly irregular seasonal rainfall. The afternoon sea breeze helps moderate the high summer temperatures.

Characteristics of the vintage

The 2023 vintage was marked by low rainfall, with occasional precipitation during the winter and a dry spring. In summer, there was a persistent drought caused by high temperatures, intense heatwaves, and total rainfall of less than 150 millimetres. Nevertheless, good soil management practices and timely water inputs helped preserve the health of the vineyards. Overall, production was below average, but balanced and of high quality, as the severe drought contributed to the grapes’ exceptional health.
